Kendrick Lamar to headline 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, fans question Lil Wayne snub

Kendrick Lamar Slated to Headline 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show

It’s official: Kendrick Lamar will headline the 2025 Super Bowl LIX Halftime show. The announcement came from Roc Nation, Apple Music, and the NFL today. This could very well be one of the most highly-anticipated performances in NFL history!

The upcoming performance will actually be Lamar’s second time performing during the famous halftime show. Back in 2022, Lamar accompanied Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, 50 Cent, and Snoop Dogg in a star-studded performance. The upcoming performance will feature creative direction from Lamar’s company pgLang. That particular company also managed Kendrick’s massively successful Big Steppers Tour from 2022 to 2024. Kendrick Lamar’s performance will follow Rhianna, Ludacris, Usher, and Alicia Keys’ performances at the 2023 and 2024 Super Bowl halftime shows.

The announcement that Lamar will be performing at the halftime show in 2025 follows the controversial beef between Lamar and artist Drake earlier this year. The beef resulted in the song “Not Like Us”, which has since become a massive hit. The song “Like That” was also released earlier this year with Metro Boomin and Future, which started the “battle” with Drake. That song topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks.

Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Performance in 2025 Was Meant To Happen

In a statement from Roc Nation, founder Jay-Z said that Lamar is “truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”

It makes perfect sense why Lamar has been chosen to headline the massive performance in 2025. Since his debut with the 2012 album Good Kid, m.A.A.d City, Lamar has steadily risen into fame in the rap community. Today, he’s become one of the most influential rappers of his generation. With 17 Grammys under his belt (plus a Pulitzer Prize), it’s far from shocking that he was asked to perform at the coveted halftime show in 2025.

The 2025 Super Bowl LIX will be produced by DPS and Roc Nation, and the latter will also be the strategic entertainment advisor for the live show. The game is set to start on February 9, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Caesars Superdome. The event will air on Fox.
