On July 13 — the day before Kate returned to rapturous applause at Wimbledon — former US president Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt at his rally in Pennsylvania. The alleged shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, had gathered plenty of information about Trump before attempting to gun him down — and he had researched other powerful figures, too.

According to officials with the Secret Service and the FBI, Crooks — who died at the scene — had information stored on his phone and laptops about President Joe Biden…and about Princess Kate. Investigators said that Middleton had a prominent place in Crooks’ search history on his encrypted Samsung Android phone.
Investigators do not believe Crooks had plans in place to travel to the United Kingdom and attempt to assassinate Kate, but the revelation has prompted concern within the royal family as the princess continues her cancer battle.
