With the Connecticut Sun being the most impressive team in the WNBA, fans are disappointed by guard DiJonai Carrington’s lack of contribution. The Sun secured their season’s 17th win against the Atlanta Dream, elevating their record to 17-4.

However, the 80-67 victory featured an ordinary outing from their star guard, who returned with just nine points, three assists and six rebounds. Fans were particularly dismayed by how Allisha Gray and Tina Charles outplayed Carrington.

Considered a strong contender for the Defensive Player of the Year award this season, the athlete’s recent defensive blip earned her criticism on Twitter.

“Im never putting another dollar on dijonai carrington ever again, no wonder why she isnt an allstar and that dpoy candidacy is fraudulent.” A user tweeted.

Many echoed similar criticisms, ridiculing various aspects of her performance:

“Shit crazy i literally woulds cash a 4 man if she didnt go 2-9,” another fan tweeted.

“Allisha Gray is COOKING DiJonai Carrington,” a fan tweeted.

“If Dijonai and Nalyssa don’t do none they gone get on a flight to and be at the other game,” a fan tweeted.

Most were utterly disappointed with Carrington:

“Dijonai Carrington couldn’t even score 10 pts,” a fan tweeted.

“Dijonai Carrington stinks… she lucky she fine cuz she needs a new career path… 1-6 and trying to throw this game,” another fan tweeted.

Still, her team, led by DeWanna Bonner and Tifanny Mitchell off the bench, did enough to extend their stay on the top of the conference.

DiJonai Carrington has shown her two-way talent this season

Although DiJonai Carrington received scrutiny after the win on Sunday, she has played an integral part in their success this season. Entering Sunday, the Sun star averaged 13.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Further, she has been Connecticut’s defensive stalwart, guarding the opposition’s best offensive players. She has restricted multiple major superstars single-handedly.

Her former Baylor teammate, NaLyssa Smith, an Indiana Fever forward, championed Carrington as the league’s top defender in mid-June.

Carrington posted that tweet and responded “IKDR,” which means “I know dat’s right.”
