The quarter-finals of the women’s football event at the Paris 2024 Olympics have officially determined the 8 best teams participating after the final round of the group stage ended.

8 teams in the quarterfinals

The teams of France, Canada, USA, Germany, Spain and Japan officially won tickets to the quarterfinals as the first and second place in their groups.

Meanwhile, the two tickets for the second-best team belong to Colombia and Brazil. Australia also got the third place in Group B but sadly stopped due to inferior goal difference.

In the final match of Group A, Canada continued to show impressive form with a 1-0 victory over Colombia with the only goal scored by Vanessa Gilles.

This result helped Canada win all three matches in the group stage. However, this CONCACAF team only won 3 points because they were deducted 6 points for spying on their opponents.

With only 3 points, Canada accepted second place in the group, because in the same match, the host team France defeated New Zealand 2-1 to gain a total of 6 points.

Colombia lost in the final round but still qualified as one of the two third-placed teams with the best record.

In Group B, the US team continued to assert its position with a 2-1 victory over Australia thanks to goals from Trinity Rodman and Korbin Albert.

This result helped the US win 9 absolute points and advance straight to the quarterfinals as group winners, while Australia, despite having 3 points, was eliminated.

In the same match, Germany showed off its strength with a resounding 4-1 victory over Zambia to gain 6 points and take second place in Group B.

Meanwhile, in Group C, Spain easily won 2-0 against Brazil, while Japan defeated Mali 3-1.

Closing the group stage, Spain won the top spot in Group C with 9 absolute points and Japan finished second with 6 points, officially winning tickets to the quarterfinals.

Brazil, with 3 points (-2 goal difference), had to wait anxiously and only when the US-Australia match ended could this team smile with a ticket to the quarterfinals.

Determine the quarter-final matchup

After the group stage ended, the organizing committee of the 2024 Olympic women’s football event also determined the quarter-final matches.

Luckily winning the right to continue, the Brazilian team will face great difficulties in the quarter-finals because their opponent will be host France.

However, considering the current strength of the teams, this can also be considered the “easiest” opponent for Brazil at this time, because France is certainly not rated as highly as the remaining opponents that Brazil may have to face.

The remaining third-placed team, Colombia, will face Spain (Group C winners), who won all their matches in the group stage.

With their current strength, the Colombian team certainly will not be rated as highly as the reigning world champions.

Meanwhile, two other candidates for the 2024 Olympic Gold medal, the United States and Germany, have also determined their opponents in the quarter-finals.

The United States will continue their journey with a match against Japan, which will also kick off the women’s soccer quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, the German team will face a big challenge from Canada, the reigning Olympic champion.

According to the schedule, the quarter-final matches will take place on the evening of August 3 and the morning of August 4 (Vietnam time) at 8:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m., 0:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m.

According to the bracket, the winner of the France-Brazil match will face the winner of the Spain-Colombia match in the semi-finals, to compete for a ticket to the final.

In the other bracket, the winner of the US-Japan match will meet the winner of the Canada-Germany match in the semi-finals.

With what has been shown, the teams will certainly continue to compete with dedication to bring an attractive and dramatic quarter-final round.
