Angel Reese spoke after the Fever defeated the Sky in a heated game. Reese claimed that she and the Sky were not given a lot of calls when they were in the paint, something she noticed again when she rewatched the sequences, before taking a shot at Caitlin Clark for getting favorable calls from WNBA referees.

“From inside, I think we were playing really hard. I think we went up really strong a lot of times and we didn’t get a lot of calls. Going back and looking at (game) film, I’ve seen a lot of calls that weren’t made. I guess some people got a special whistle.

Reese is clearly unhappy about the officiating in the Sky vs. Fever game. She was called for a flagrant foul on Caitlin Clark for hitting on the head while trying to block a shot. Some suggested that Reese should have been ejected, whereas others believe that she was going for the ball and it wasn’t a malicious play.

The rivalry between Reese and Clark dates back to a year ago, when Reese and LSU defeated Clark and Iowa State to win. the NCAA Women’s Championship. Reese famously mocked Clark using John Cena’s ‘you can’t see me’ gesture that Clark had used earlier in the tournament.

Since then, the two have both made it to the WNBA as top lottery picks. Both players, but Clark especially have been credited for the rise in popularity of the WNBA. NBA legend Magic Johnson even praised both players for what they have done for the league.

She spoke after the game about Reese and the caliber of player that she is and recalled their time competing against each other in college. She also added that their rivalry and competition are great for women’s basketball.

“I think what she has done with her platform has been absolutely incredible. She has an entire fanbase that has supported her. What she did at Maryland, and then LSU – obviously I’ve played her for a very long time. She’s been a tremendous player.”

“It’s been fun getting to compete against (her), I think it’s been good for the game and people just love seeing great matchups. But also at the same time, people tune in for these matchups, but people also get to see how great these teams are. And they find new players to support. And (they) continue to come back for them too, so I think that’s another benefit of it, honestly.”

Even though both players consider each other rivals, it is clear that there is a healthy mutual respect between them both. Clark and Reese have been dubbed the future stalwarts of the WNBA. Many fans expect the two players and their rivalries to have a similar impact on the WNBA to Magic Johnson and Larry Bird’s legendary rivalry in the 1980s.
