One of the most popular Dallas Cowboys reporters has decided to step away after covering the franchise for half a decade.
Today, veteran NFL reporter Michael Gehlken took to X/Twitter to announce that he is leaving The Dallas Morning News, where he spent five years covering the Dallas Cowboys. Gehlken added that he’s moving to the nation’s capital, citing “family reasons” behind his decision to leave.
In his statement, Gehlken thanked the Cowboys’ organization. Gehlken previously covered the Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers at The San Diego Union-Tribune and the Las Vegas/Oakland Raiders at the Las Vegas Review-Journal before moving to Dallas in 2019.

Football fans were stunned to learn that one of the team’s most beloved and respected reporters is leaving:
The Cowboys are one of the nation’s most widely followed sports teams, so The Dallas Morning News will surely want to move quickly to find Gehlken’s replacement as the 2024 NFL season approaches.
All the best to Michael Gehlken and his family as they embark on a brand new adventure. And congratulations to him on a magnificent five-year tenure at one of the nation’s top newspapers.
Cowboys Open 2024 Season at Cleveland Browns
Dallas will open their 2024 campaign with a road contest against the Myles Garrett-led Cleveland Browns. That game also marks Tom Brady’s debut as an NFL analyst for FOX Sports, where he’ll work alongside Kevin Burkhardt and Erin Andrews.
The Cowboys are coming off a third straight 12-win season, albeit one that ended with an ugly 48-32 home loss to the seventh-seeded Green Bay Packers on Super Wild Card Weekend.
Expectations are once again in Big D for a Cowboys team that hasn’t reached the NFC Championship Game since 1995, the last year the franchise won the Super Bowl. There’s a good chance that owner Jerry Jones will make sweeping changes (likely starting with head coach Mike McCarthy) if the ‘Boys fall short of expectation again.
