The Rookie of the Year frontrunner was named as a WNBA All-Star starter in her first season, leading the Indiana Fever to the seventh seed with averages of 17.1 points, 8.2 assists and 5.8 rebounds while shooting 40 percent.
Clark helped lead the Team WNBA to an All-Star game upset over Team USA, beating the Olympic squad 117-109 with key performances from Angel Reese and Arike Ogunbowale alongside Clark.
Caitlin Clark breaks WNBA All-Star Game rookie record in upset win over Team USA
In her first WNBA All-Star game, Caitlin Clark broke an All-Star Game rookie record with 10 assists, despite sitting out for much of the second half.
Clark set up her teammates all night, finishing two assists short of Sue Bird’s All-Star Game record of 11 assists, set back in 2017. Clark also added four points and two steals in her first All-Star Game.
When informed of who held the record, Clark responded:
“It’s Sue’s? Okay, then I’m breaking it. She’s been talking crap all game, so I’m breaking it. If it was anyone else, they can keep it. Not Sue Bird.”
Arike Ogunbowale secured MVP honors with a 34-point performance, while Angel Reese posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Caitlin Clark has had no problems with breaking records in her rookie season, as the Fever rookie has rewritten the record books in year one. She’s the first rookie in WNBA history to post a triple-double, in a 19-point, 13-assist, 12-rebound performance versus the New York Liberty on July 6.
Clark broke the WNBA single-game assists record, with 19 versus the Dallas Wings in a 101-93 loss on July 17. She also added 24 points and six rebounds, shooting 52 percent.
As All-Star break comes to a close, Clark is the heavy favorite to win the Rookie of the Year at -2000 odds and is in the mix of the MVP race despite being a longshot at +8500.
