Suni Lee’s Heartfelt Message For Jordan Chiles Amid Olympic Heartbreak

Jordan Chiles initially left Paris with two Olympic medals: a gold from the team final and a bronze from the floor exercise final, which was her first individual medal.

But after recent controversy, the 23-year-old from Los Angeles will have to wait to get an individual medal as her bronze was stripped away by the International Olympic Committee and given to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu.

Chiles took a break from social media in light of the decision, but on Thursday, she returned to finally reveal her thoughts on the matter.

“I am overwhelmed by the love I have received over the past few days,” Chiles wrote. “I am also incredibly grateful to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, USAG, and the USOPC for their unwavering support during this difficult time… I am now confronted with one of the most challenging moments of my career. Believe me when I say I have had many. I will approach this challenge as I have others – and will make every effort to ensure that justice is done.”

As Chiles wrote, she has received tons of support from her teammates, including Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Hezly Rivera and Jade Carey. That support continued when Lee left a heartfelt comment on Chiles’ post.

“Love you,” Lee replied with a heart emoji.

Originally, Barbosu won the medal after receiving a score of 13.700 in the floor final, but after an appeal by the USA, the judges bumped up Chiles’ score by 0.100 points. This moved her from 13.666 to 13.766 and past Barbosu.

Later, Romania contested the judge’s decision, saying the USA’s challenge came late.

The guidelines state that the coaches have one minute to make an inquiry after the score is shown, and unfortunately, the USA’s inquiry came four seconds after the deadline.

After a week of different appeals, the Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed Romania’s inquiry on August 10, awarding the medal back to Barbosu.
