Movie-goers around the world watched as William Wallace despatched his enemies with a fierce-looking piece of armour on his left arm.

Now fans of the film Braveheart have the chance to own the terrifying gauntlet sported by Hollywood star Mel Gibson in the blockbuster flick.

The gauntlet, which is festooned with arrowheads, was worn by the Scottish warrior as he battled his English foes in the film’s depiction of the Battle of Stirling.

The prop, which is composed of fiberglass, leather, foam-padding, and four metallic arrow tips, is being sold in an auction of Hollywood memorabilia and could go for more than £6,000.

Other lots in the auction include Harrison Ford’s fedora hat from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, John Travolta’s leather jacket from Saturday Night Fever and Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates.

The sale of the Braveheart prop comes after Wallace’s signature Claymore in the film sold for £60,000 at auction in the US in March.

The two-handed claymore was seen throughout the 1995 Oscar-winning film about the 13th-century Scots freedom fighter.

Widely considered one of the greatest war epics of all time, Braveheart received 10 Academy Award nominations and won five, including Best Picture and Best Director for Gibson, 68.

The film also generated a great deal of tourism for Scotland and piqued interest in Scottish history, including into the real lives of Wallace and MacClannough.

The latest auction will also see the sale of a quirky outfit worn by late Scots actor Sir Sean Connery in time-hopping movie Hillander II.

The film series followed character Connor MacLeod, played by French actor Christopher Lambert, across the centuries from the 16th-century Highlands to the modern world, where he faced his nemesis in a battle to be the last one standing.

Connery’s turn saw him play a Spanish-Egyptian dandy Juan Sanchez-Villalobos, complete with inexplicable Scottish accent.

The outfit, from the second installment in the movie franchise, is a riding costume with ‘stunt pants’.

The outfit features in the film after Connery’s character Ramirez is brought back to life and seeks out a new, modern look to blend in to the streets of New York.

It consists of one custom-made olive and brown wool English tweed single-breasted jacket with a brown suede upper; a burgundy Italian silk brocade single-breasted vest with front flap pockets; a gold-color metal pocket watch; taupe gabardine wool riding pants with an attached pair of off-white elastic suspenders; and barrel cuff riding boots with a round toe and standard heel made of black leather as well as the burgundy upper cuff.

Brandon Alinger, chief operating officer of Propstore, said: ‘This is Propstore Los Angeles’ second Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction of 2024, and the sale represents another incredible opportunity for movie fans to own a piece of cinematic history.

‘Each item carries its own significant story and history.

‘Whether you’re a seasoned collector or new to memorabilia collecting, this event promises something extraordinary for everyone.’
