Mike Tyson said he’s ready to step into the ring for the first time in four years to take on Jake Paul — even if his wife isn’t so sure.

Tyson revealed that wife Lakiha Spicer has some hesitations about his return to the ring for the highly anticipated bout with Paul on Nov. 15. The last time Tyson fought was an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. in Nov. 2020, a bout that ended in a draw. It’s been even longer since Tyson notched a professional victory, beating Clifford Etienne in a first-round knockout in Feb. 2003.

Speaking to SPORTbible this week, Tyson said he’s not coming back for the money but instead the glory of returning to the ring.

Tyson said his wife feels differently.

“This fight is not going to change my life financially,” Tyson said. “If I did it for free, it’s not going to change my life. My wife is constantly telling me, you do not need to do this fight.

“This is what I want to do, this is me. I’m seeking my glory.”

Tyson and Spicer met at a boxing match when she was just 18 years old, and five years later started dating, People magazine noted. The pair married in 2009 and have two children together.

Though Paul bragged that he was getting a “healthy payday” from the fight, the former YouTube star turned boxer admitted having similar motivations as Tyson.

“It drives me. I love proving people wrong,” Paul said. “I think sometimes my confidence comes across as arrogant and cocky, this guy thinks he knows it all, but it simply comes back to confidence and me believing in myself.

“When you do that in today’s society that’s full of losers and sheep, they’re just going to label you as the bad guy, and single you out, and want to see you fail,” he added.

While neither Paul nor Tyson have confirmed the exact prize amount for the fight, Paul mentioned during a summer press conference that he could earn up to $40 million. Industry experts gave USA Today a smaller number, predicting Tyson could be in line for up to $20 million.
