A Quora user named Kynan Eng estimated what it would cost to rescue all of the Damon characters. And it’d be around $900 billion. Though all these are roughly calculated, still it’s a lot to save just one person, every time.
The Massive Cost of Rescuing Matt Damon
Hollywood has rescued Matt Damon from challenging situations a number of times, including from Mars, from behind enemy lines in France, and after being abducted in Baghdad.
A Quora user posted on the question-and-answer site asking, “How much money has been spent attempting to bring Matt Damon back from distant places?”
The Martian (2015)
The user cited Saving Private Ryan, Interstellar, and The Martian as examples of films in which Damon’s character must be rescued.
Kynan Eng, a Quora user, took it upon themselves to add up the imaginary costs of such challenging rescues. Eng found the outcome to be very astonishing.
According to Eng, over 900 billion dollars have already been spent “trying to bring Matt Damon back” after “extended business trips“.
Estimated Breakdown of $900 Billion
Aside from The Martian, Damon has a long list of films in which he portrays a character who needs to be saved. Eng discovered precise estimates of the costs associated with bringing back Damon’s characters from wherever in the cosmos they ended up.
Matt Damon in Interstellar
According to the Quora user Eng, – the breakdown for each rescue mission would be: Courage Under Fire (Gulf War 1 helicopter rescue): $300,000, Saving Private Ryan (WW2 Europe search party): $100,000, Titan A.E. (Earth evacuation spaceship): $200 billion, Syriana (Middle East private security return flight): $50,000, Green Zone (US Army transport from the Middle East): $50,000, Elysium (Space station security deployment and damages): $100 million, Interstellar (Interstellar spaceship): $500 billion, The Martian (Mars mission): $200 billion
In total, that’s $900 billion in fictional money spent rescuing Matt Damon. Since everything is estimated in 2015 dollars, nothing is financially accurate for the time period.
