Recently, Jackie Chan and John Cena’s Hidden Strike also suffered the same fate as it opened with terrible ratings on Rotten Tomatoes but managed to earn a decent audience score. The Meg (2018) currently stands at a 46% rating from the critics and a 43% rating from the audience. Despite these poor ratings, The Meg was not a complete waste of money.

The Meg (2018) earned more than $500 million

Directed by Jon Turteltaub, 2018’s The Meg contained many action-packed sequences that managed to attract the audiences, however, the movie received mixed reviews from critics for its predictable plot and cringe cliches. One thing that was praised by everyone was Jason Statham’s outstanding work as Jonas Taylor in the movie.

In the end, Warner Bros.’s decision to create this movie wasn’t a terrible one as The Meg managed to earn roughly $530 million at the global box office on a production budget between $130–178 million. The sequel was made on a budget of $129 million and only time will tell if it’s a flop or a hit.

Meg 2: The Trench will hit the theatres on 4th August 2023.
