City Chiefs coach’s career ‘near the end’, according to an ESPN reporter.

The Chiefs are said to fear Reid could walk away at the end of the season, despite the 65-year-old coach recently insisting he is not considering calling it a day.

Reid, who is 66 in March, is supremely popular in Kansas City with his players and fans

Reid was asked about his long-term future at a Chiefs press conference last month and dismissed any suggestions that he will step down in the near future. But Mike Florio of NBC said on the Zach Gelby show that the Chiefs have Reid’s potential departure ‘on their radar’.

There was also a report last month tBut ESPN’s Sean McDonough admits ‘where there’s smoke, there’s fire’ and admitted he wouldn’t be surprised if Reid did retire.

He told The Greg Hill Show on 93.7 WEEI Boston: ‘There was some talk about (the rumors), not a lot.’It certainly didn’t come across as imminent, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire, too. I trust Adam Schefter.

‘It wouldn’t surprise me if Andy is considering it; I mean, he’s definitely toward the end of his career.

‘I kinda believe in going out on top, so if he were to win and he was pondering it, I wonder if it might compel him to be more likely to retire
