Angel Reese’s popularity has only grown since entering the WNBA. In many of her games, artists, athletes and even politicians go out of their way to meet her. Count YouTuber Erica Kane, known also as Ekane, as among those who are at least familiar with the Chicago Sky rookie’s name.
On Thursday, the social media influencer related an experience on X, formerly Twitter. She claimed to have been stopped by “at least 3 people” at the airport because she looked like the “Chi Barbie.” Kane responded to the intrusion by telling people that she was playing against the “Atlanta Falcons” which was why she was in town.
Ekane added that people “looked at me crazy” every time she mentioned the Falcons.
Angel Reese replied to the post:
“atlanta falcons is crazy sis”
The popular social media influencer got the name of the team wrong as the WNBA franchise based in Atlanta is the Dream. The Falcons are Atlanta’s NFL team. Additionally, football is just opening training camp so there are no games. It wasn’t a wonder why those he talked to looked at her like she was crazy.
Angel Reese is also vacationing in Europe right now. The WNBA is taking a break to allow the members of Team USA to compete in the women’s basketball tournament in Paris. Reese went to London to watch the Americans’ tune-up game against Germany before flying to France for the quadrennial summer games.
Fans react to Ekane’s “Angel Reese” post
Ekane has over 800K followers on Instagram while Angel Reese has over 3.8 million. It didn’t take long for some of them to react to the YouTuber’s hilarious experience.
“Atlanta Falcons, Ekane? You couldn’t say a team that’s in the actual WNBA to make it believable???”
One fan stayed in the same vein:
“Sis it is VERY fun to lie but at least make it believable like [crying emoji]”
Another fan trolled her:
“brownskin? i could’ve sworn you said you were light-skinned”
Somebody gave an advice that came a little too late:
“You should’ve just smiled and kept it moving”
Most of Erica Kane’s responses to the comments are even wilder. One can only imagine the confusion she caused with her “Atlanta Falcons” claim.
Some of Ekane’s IG photos show that she does look a little like Angel Reese. If only she hadn’t blundered with her response, she might have pulled off the trickery. The people she interacted with likely realized she wasn’t the WNBA star when she claimed she was playing against the Falcons.
