Angel Reese WNBA double-double record: What to know about Sky rookie’s impressive new feat

Angel Reese now owns the all-time WNBA consecutive double-doubles record.

After already breaking the rookie record for most double-doubles in a row, Angel Reese set the all-time WNBA mark for any player by registering her 13th consecutive double-double on Sunday. She moved ahead of basketball legend Candace Parker in the history books.

Reese will play in the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game in recognition of her fantastic first few months in the league. The 22-year-old’s rebounding prowess is perhaps her best trait, as she’s relentlessly beaten more experienced players to loose balls.

“I’m just so happy,” Reese said this past week after learning about her All-Star nod. “I know the work I put in. Coming into this league, so many people doubted me and didn’t think my game would translate, and I wouldn’t be the player I was in college. … I wouldn’t be where I am right now. But I trusted the process, I believed, and I’m thankful that I dropped to [No.] seven and was able to come to Chicago.

The former LSU college basketball standout has recently improved her touch around the basket and even added a couple of 3-pointers this past week to expand her arsenal.

Reese entered Sunday’s game against the Seattle Storm averaging 13.9 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. She finished the record-breaking contest with 17 points and 14 rebounds in an 84-71 defeat.

The Sky have an 8-12 record and are in the eighth and final WNBA Playoffs seed at the midpoint of the campaign.

What has Candace Parker said about Angel Reese?

Parker is a huge fan of Reese and wrote a section in a profile of the rookie published by TIME.

“She’s ripping the sport open and tearing back the layers,” Parker said of Reese. “Basketball is about work, effort, and energy, and Angel always brings all three.

“Her tenacity and confidence on the court make her such an exciting player to watch—it’s incredible to see her stand in her power and make such a big impact on women’s basketball, especially this early in her career.”
