Not much gets Tony Romo more excited than great quarterback play, but the CBS broadcaster has been enthralled by Taylor Swift’s presence at Chiefs games from the start.

Romo and broadcast partner Jim Nantz have called plenty of Kansas City’s games since Swift started dating Travis Kelce, and Romo hasn’t shied away from his enthusiasm for Swift and the new dynamic the relationship has created around the reigning Super Bowl champions.

That enthusiasm might have led Romo to get a little too far ahead of himself, with the former Cowboys quarterback referring to Kelce and Swift as a married couple on multiple occasions.

Here’s what you need to know about the status of Kelce and Swift’s relationship and why Romo keeps implying they are married.

Are Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift married?

No, despite what Romo says, Kelce and Swift are not married or even engaged. Their relationship only began a few months ago and no earlier than July, when Kelce described his unsuccessful attempt to meet Swift at one of her Eras Tour concerts.

At some point between then and September, the pair got to know each other and started dating. While they certainly seem to be on the right path, it’s likely still a bit too early for marriage to be front and center in their minds at this point.

Just don’t tell that to Tony Romo. The CBS analyst has referred to a Kelce and Swift marriage a few times late in the season, and viewers are starting to take note. Romo most recently labeled Jason Kelce as Swift’s “brother-in-law” during the divisional round thriller between the Bills and Chiefs.

When the Bills and Chiefs first met in December, Romo had a similar on-air gaffe. “As you see Kelce’s wife, Taylor Swift, in the audience,” Romo said before correcting himself. “Not yet,” Nantz added.

Romo even misspoke on Christmas, again labeling Swift as Kelce’s wife. Nantz was quick to remember that it wasn’t the first time Romo made the mistake.

All Chiefs games the rest of the way will be called by Nantz and Romo, as the crew will be in Baltimore for the AFC championship and CBS has the broadcast rights to Super Bowl 58 two weeks later. That gives Romo an opportunity to set the record straight — or continue to take the Kelce-Swift relationship farther along than it actually is.
