But that clearly wasn’t the case for Scarlett Johansson who looked just as pretty in her yearbook photos as she does today.
Only a youthful teenage glow and a late nineties wardrobe marked the difference between Scarlett, 28, then and now.
No duckling here: Scarlett was clearly a beauty throughout her high school days
Spot the difference: Scarlett Johansson looks just as good as a teen as she does posing for a perfume ad
Nineties: Just a dated wardrobe and the youthful glow of her teenage years marked the difference between the actress then and now
Growing up in New York with a twin brother Hunter, and three old siblings Vanessa, Adrian and Christian, the Under The Skin actress attended PS 41 Greenwich Village School.
She attended the public academic institution until her acting career took off, forcing her to move to a private academy and work with a tutor on set.
‘I used to go to public school,’ a 16-year old Scarlett told Index magazine. ‘But when I started working more, they wouldn’t deal with my being away so much.’
Sexiest Woman Alive: Who would have guessed back at PS 41 Greenwich Village School, that Scarlett would have become Esquire magazine’s top pin-up in 2013?
Red carpet ready: Even at her prom, Scarlett could carry off a floor-length gown, like last month at Venice Film Festival for her new film Under The Skin
Not that she didn’t get to the normal high school things in between film shoots, as in a few of the shows the actress can be seen in a prom dress with her friends, proving that even at that age she could pull of a red carpet floor-length number.
Speaking back in 2001, Scarlett remembered a couple of her proms, one of which may well have been pictured in one of these yearbook photos.
‘Freshman year the prom was at this really small restaurant, it was horrible,’ she told Index. ‘Of course we couldn’t drink, so what the hell? Last year we had it on a boat. Yeah, that was fun — stuck on a cold boat for four hours. You couldn’t get off.’
Bad girls: In an interview when she was 16, Scarlet admitted that she and her friends had fake IDs
Academic change: When Scarlett’s career took off, she had to move from public to private school and get an onset tutor
Loves make-up: 16-year old Johansson boasted a large cosmetic collection
And interestingly enough, a young Scarlett would get her dream of wearing Dolce & Gabbana to the Oscars, for at sixteen she said: ‘I want to wear Dolce & Gabbana. Hear me? I’m saying it now. Or Prada.
‘My mom bought me a D&G dress, and at first I wanted to return it because it made me look naked. It was so flattering, it scared me at first. I felt like I couldn’t wear it out.’
Now she is the face of the Italian brand’s perfume The One and wore a custom-made gown to the 2011 Academy Awards.
Dream come true: Scarlett wears a custom-designed Dolce & Gabbana dress to the 2011 Oscars
