Pop star Britney, 41, writes in The Woman in Me: “How had I managed not to kill myself in that place?

“Almost anyone else in my situation would have.

“Thinking about how close I came to doing just that, I wept.”

Britney was placed under a conservatorship by dad Jamie in 2008.

The legal hold removed her ability to make decisions about her professional and personal life.

Britney says she was forced to stay in the mental health facility when a doctor diagnosed her as “demented”.

She explains: “My father said if I didn’t go, then I’d have to go to court.

“He said, ‘trust me, you will not win’.

“I honestly felt like they were trying to kill me.

“They kept me locked up against my will for months.”

The  Baby One More Time singer also reveals she was forced to take lithium — a mood-stabilising medicine.

She adds: “Lithium is a dangerous drug.

“I didn’t know where I was or even who I was sometimes.”

Britney was released from the conservatorship in 2021.

In her autobiography, out yesterday, she also speaks in detail about her lover Justin Timberlake and ex-husband Kevin Federline.
