Britney Spears’ ex Adnan Ghalib reacts to ‘near death’ experience mentioned in memoir after ‘car spun out near cliff’

BRITNEY Spears’ ex-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib has told how he “looked down into the abyss” during a near-death experience with the star.

Gimme More star Britney, 41, reveals in her new autobiography The Woman in Me that one time she nearly drove off a cliff with Adnan.

The pair dated in the months leading up to Britney being placed in a mental health conservatorship under her father Jamie in 2008.

In the book, Britney explains that although he had previously worked as a paparazzi, she liked Adnan because he was “chivalrous and helped me out when the others got too aggressive.”

She never refers to him by name, calling him “the photographer” instead.

In one passage she claims to have pulled a 360 spin on the very edge of a cliff while they were being chased by paps.

Britney says that it was “one of those moments with him (Adnan) that I’ll never forget.”

She writes: “I honestly didn’t even know I could do a 360 – it was completely beyond me, so I think it was God. But I stuck it; the back wheels of the car stopped on what seemed like the very edge, and if the wheels had rotated maybe three more times, we would have just gone off the cliff.”

Britney says that Adnan and she looked at each other and she said: “We could have just died.”

She adds that it made her feel “so alive.”

‘FASTER AND FASTER’

Adnan remembers things slightly differently.

Speaking exclusively to The U.S. Sun, the security consultant, 50, said that Britney was driving a Mercedes SL 65.

It is one of the fastest cars the German brand has ever made, with a twin turbo engines boasting more 600 horsepower.

Brit Adnan, who is originally from Birmingham, England, but currently lives in California, said: “Britney wanted to let her hair down and go for a drive, which she loves doing.

“She wasn’t wound up or high.

“She threw a left out of her home onto Mulholland Drive, which is a very winding road above the hills of LA.

“She was driving faster and faster around a lot of hairpins with sharp turns close to cliffs and banks.

“She was going as fast as 60mph on turns where 20mph is safest.

“She was laughing and just so happy to be out of the house on our own with no paparazzi.”

Adnan said that what came next left him in disbelief that they weren’t killed.

He explained: “All of a sudden, she was taking us closer to the edges of the cliffs, before pulling back at the last minute.

“It was not because she was a bad driver, but because she was speeding and this car was so powerful.

“Then on one turn where it looks like the road ends, because of how hard the left turn was, Britney made the turn, hit the brakes and we spun around, perilously close to the edge.

“As the passenger, I was looking down into the abyss.

“She was like ‘Wow, we could have died.’ And I was like ‘I’m surprised we didn’t.’”

‘ADRENALINE PUMPING’

Adnan explained that although he was terrified at the time, the moment left a lasting impression on him.

“It was scary, but a thrill at the same time,” he said.

“We both felt so alive with our adrenaline pumping.

“It was the childlike innocence in Britney coming out. She longed to have fun and be carefree.

“But after that, she slowed down and it was like Driving Miss Daisy.”

Adnan revealed earlier this week that the cliff-hugging moment was not the only time he feared for Britney’s life.

He explained that there were serious concerns that she would died of an overdose of her “drug of choice”, the legal amphetamine Adderall.

Previously he revealed that at one point they thought she was pregnant with his baby and that she longed to have a girl to add to her two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

He also told how Britney was left “mesmerized” when the love of her life Justin Timberlake came up on a TV screen.

A leaked passage from the memoir explosively revealed last week that she had an abortion with Justin in 2000 when the pair were 19.

The U.S. Sun also exclusively revealed last week that Britney admits in the book for the first time ever following years of rumors that she cheated on Justin with choreographer Wade Robson.

On Wednesday, Adan told how Britney sat calmly eating soup before 10 sheriff deputies took her off for a psych evaluation ahead of her mental health conservatorship, which lasted until November 2021.
