Caitlin Clark and Connor McCaffery will not see Jack McCaffery suit up for the Iowa Hawkeyes in collegiate basketball. The youngest son of Fran McCaffery, Hawkeyes men’s basketball coach, announced his commitment to play for the Butler Bulldogs. He follows older brother Patrick, who played in Iowa for four years, to Butler.

“The Gazzette” reported in February this year that the youngest of the McCaffery brothers planned not to go to Iowa. He allegedly wanted “to try something different” and “blaze [his] own path.”

Caitlin Clark and Connor McCaffery reacted to a post on Instagram by @tiptonedits announcing the former high school star’s commitment to play for Butler:

“Yessssirrrr”

Clark’s boyfriend, now an assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers, didn’t say anything but used emojis to express his praise and excitement.

Jack McCaffery also had offers from Bryant, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest but decided to play for the Bulldogs. He told 247Sports the reason behind his choice:

“They offered me a little over a year ago and stayed consistent recruiting me this summer.

“They had a coach at every single one of my games this summer and I felt like they really wanted me. My brother goes there, too, and he likes it a lot so it helped my decision.”

Caitlin Clark and Connor McCaffery will not see Jack McCaffery wear the Hawkeyes uniform, but count on them to continue cheering for him at Butler.

ESPN ranked the younger McCaffery No. 72 in the 2025 recruiting class. He would have been in the limelight regardless of where he plays. Deciding not to play for his father and follow in his brothers’ footsteps will add to the scrutiny, though.

Caitlin Clark and Connor McCaffery might watch some of Jack McCaffery’s games

Jack McCaffery’s decision to play for Butler instead of Iowa will bring him to Indiana. The move will also make it a bit easier for Caitlin Clark and Connor McCaffery to watch some of his games. Clark is the Fever’s superstar rookie, while his brother works for Rick Carlisle with the Pacers.

Clark and the Pacers assistant coach will have a busy schedule but it wouldn’t surprise many if they attend a few of the Bulldogs’ games. They have two McCaffery brothers to cheer for once the new collegiate basketball season begins.

Butler’s season-opening game will be against the Houston Cougars on Dec. 7. It is one of the most highly anticipated games in the Bulldogs’ schedule so there might be a Caitlin Clark or Connor McCaffery sighting that day.
