Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark and Las Vegas Aces guard Kate Martin have been tight for years. While the former Iowa Hawkeye stars are no longer teammates, they remain best friends.

Martin reflected on her WNBA journey in a rare Instagram post on July 8. She posted several photos from her time with the Aces thus far, including pictures of Bills defensive end A.J. Epenesa, comedian Theo Von, Clark, her teammates, and a sweet embrace with her mother, Jill Martin.

Martin captioned the post, “I love my job,” which caught Clark’s attention. Clark commented, “🖤🖤🥹🥹love you,” before adding a second message for Martin’s mom.

“Just here for jilly bean,” Clark wrote in a second comment, which quickly racked up nearly 1,000 likes in less than 30 minutes.

Martin’s mother and her father, Matt Martin, got to know Clark during their daughter’s four-year tenure at Iowa. While Clark was clearly going to be the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft after college, Martin’s life changed after she was unexpectedly drafted by the Aces in the second round.

“We will admit that there is a celebrity to Kate now,” Matt said afterward, per Hawk Central.  “We fought it. We laughed at it. We thought it was silly. But … she definitely has a following now that is undeniable. That’s just crazy to us.”

Jill added, “She said (before) her first practice with the Aces, ‘I’m just going to go out there and enjoy it…   think it paid off.”
