Caitlin Clark’s college basketball career has officially come to an end. Her last game for Iowa ended in a heartbreaking 87-75 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks in the national championship.
Clark, the all-time leading scorer in college basketball, scored 30 points in the game, surpassing Chamique Holdsclaw to become the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer.
After an emotional speech with reporters after the game, she broke down posting on her Instagram story, writing, “I’ll miss you,” adding a string of yellow hearts. Clark’s No. 22 jersey and shoes were solemnly placed on the court.
Caitlin Clark has propelled the Hawkeye program to new heights over the past few seasons, as well as women’s basketball in general.
While Clark has narrowly missed out on NCAA titles in the past two seasons, she has received praise from South Carolina coach Dawn Staley after her final college game.
“I want to personally thank Caitlin Clark for elevating our sport. She has carried the torch for our sport and it won’t stop here in her college journey, but when she’s the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft, she’ll elevate that,” Staley said, via Fox News. “Caitlin Clark, if you’re out there, you’re one of the GOATs of our game and we hold you in high regard.”
Caitlin Clark concludes her college career leaving a mark in history as she departs with two National Player of the Year awards and leads the Hawkeyes to three Big Ten Tournament titles. She’s been honored as the Big Ten Player of the Year three times and holds the NCAA scoring record with 3,951 points.
Caitlin Clark, the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, will enter the 2024 WNBA Draft on April 15 with a slew of personal accolades and accomplishments unlike any woman before her.
The Hawkeyes star is gearing up for the next phase in her basketball career, one that may kick off when the Indiana Fever selects her as the No. 1 pick in the draft.
If she can translate her college dominance into a remarkable WNBA career, the solution will pay dividends for all devices now and in the future.
