Indiana Fever v Dallas WingsAmazing Caitlin Clark stat shows how she’s ahead of Angel Reese (Imagn)

Over the past few weeks, the debate between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese for Rookie of the Year has been nonstop in WNBA circles. One recent stat that surfaced shows why the No. 1 pick should still be considered the favorite to win the award.

When Clark was getting ready to enter the pros, the bar was set extremely high following her historic run at Iowa. Through the first half of the season, she has lived up to most of the expectations. Clark continues to put up impressive numbers as she cements herself as a future face of the league.

In 26 games with the Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark is averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists. What’s more impressive is that she currently has more 20-point games than the rest of her rookie class combined.

Clark has broken the 20-point plateau on ten occasions this season. She’s also the only rookie with a 30-point game, and she’s done it twice.

As for the rest of the rookie class, they only have six 20-point games in 2024. Angel Reese accounts for three of them, Rickea Jackson has two under her belt, and Aaliyah Edwards notched 20+ points in one game.

Between her impressive numbers and getting the Fever into the playoff picture, Clark should still be viewed as the top choice for ROY.

Caitlin Clark puts on another historic performance

Over the past two weeks, Caitlin Clark has made history on multiple occasions. The rookie phenom managed to pull off another never-before-seen performance on Wednesday night against the Dallas Wings.

Clark’s historic run began back on July 6th against the New York Liberty. In that game, she became the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double (19 points, 12 rebounds, 13 assists).

In her next game after that, Clark posted a stat line that no player has ever achieved. Albeit in a losing effort, she erupted for 29 points, five rebounds, 13 assists, five steals and five made threes.

Fast forward to Wednesday night, and Caitlin Clark made history yet again. She achieved a new WNBA record by dishing 19 assists against the Wings. The previous record was held by Liberty guard Courtney Vandersloot, who recorded 18 assists in a game in 2020.

Aside from her scoring, Clark has displayed she can be an elite playmaker as well. Wednesday marked the seventh time this season she finished a game with double-digit assists.

Other rookies have put together impressive campaigns this far, but none to the degree of Clark. Seeing that she’s set multiple new records this season, the Fever guard should be the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year honors. Especially considering the expectations that were placed on her before she ever took the floor in the WNBA.
