Caitlin Clark created history by becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to notch up a triple-double in the Indiana Fever’s stunning 83-78 upset over the New York Liberty on Saturday night.

Despite picking up their best win this season, Fever forward Kate Lou Samuelson jokingly asked Clark for a random favor after her history-making performance.

“I know you got a triple-double, but can you babysit after this?” Samuelson asked Clark in an Instagram story.

Clark cheekily responded:

“Elite babysitter”

Samuelson has a 10-month-old child, Aliyah, who has been one of the mainstays of the Fever game. Aliyah had also witnessed Clark’s triple-double display.

The 2024 WNBA top overall pick put up 19 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists to become the only rookie in the WNBA to reach the triple-double mark. It was also the first-ever triple-double from an Indiana Fever player .

In the same game, Samuelson contributed five points, two rebounds and one assist on two-of-six shooting.

Clark made seven field goals in 17 attempts against the Liberty while adding two steals, albeit on four turnovers. Her assist tally also tied her season-high as three other players scored double digits for the Fever.

The Fever rookie phenom scored or assisted on 46 of the Fever points in the game, contributing more than half (55%) of Indiana’s total score.

Fever coach Christie Sides praises Caitlin Clark amidst tight Rookie of the Year race

While her teammates gave her flowers, Caitlin Clark continued to receive praise from her coach Christie Sides, who has been very vocal with her support for the rookie, especially in the highly contested Rookie of the Year race.

Caitlin Clark’s historic accomplishment came just a day after Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese had tied the WNBA record for most consecutive double-doubles in a game, fueling the fierce Rookie of the Year race this season between the two college rivals.

Despite the competition, Fever coach Christie Sides expressed her full props on Clark’s case, even comparing her with WNBA legend Diana Taurasi.

“First and foremost, she is the most competitive human being I’ve ever met.

“I really compare her to Diana Tuarasi. She’s always looking to find ways to get better,” Sides said. “She just wants to win; she just wants to win. She’s going to be my rookie of the year, every day.”

Clark and Reese have been named All-Stars this season and will play together for Team WNBA against Team USA in the WNBA All-Star weekend. With the two players still stacking up feats, the Rookie of the Year race could go down to the wire.

Caitlin Clark is averaging 16.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 33.7% from the 3-point line this season.
