Patrick Mahomes speaking to reporters

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has broken his silence on his father’s arrest following a DWI incident in Texas.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. was taken into custody for said offense during the weekend and, with this being his third strike, he could be facing a lengthy prison term.

According to TMZ, the elder Mahomes admitted he “had a few beers while watching a game at a local bar” before he got into his vehicle after he was pulled by lawmen who spotted him driving slower than the rest of the traffic while sporting expired tags.

The arresting officer noted that the former MLB player failed a sobriety test once he was taken out of his vehicle.

“I believed Patrick was impaired to a perceptible degree while operating a motor vehicle in a public place,” he wrote in documents obtained by the aforementioned publication.

The QB was asked about the situation while speaking to the media on Super Bowl opening night.

“He’s doing good, I don’t want to get into too much but he’s doing good for whatever the situation is,” he said. “It’s a family matter, so I’ll keep it to the family, and that’s all I’ll really have to say at this point.”

Mahomes Sr. is facing a felony due to this being his third DWI arrest but is allowed to travel to Las Vegas to watch the Super Bowl. As to whether he will attend the game remains unclear.
