Chris Hemsworth Lied About His Height for 2012 Movie That Was a Box Office Bomb, Claimed Studios Kept Turning Him Down as He’s too Tall

Actor Chris Hemsworth’s height has proven to be a big issue for him. The average male height in Australia is about 5 foot 9 inches, the same as the average height for men between the ages of 20 to 59 around the world. Naturally, it is pretty common to see male actors around this height, so Hemsworth surely stands out.

In the past, the Australian actor has revealed that he had to lie about his height in order to get roles because casting directors thought that the height difference between Hemsworth and his co-stars would look weird.

In order to audition for roles the actor started claiming he was 5 foot 11 inches even though he is 6 foot 3 inches. Luckily, Marvel Studios were looking for a tall actor for the role of Thor so Hemsworth was perfect for the role but in most cases, the actor gets rejected just because he’s too tall.

In 2016, actor Chris Hemsworth appeared for an interview with Radio Times to talk about the obstacles he faced throughout his career. In the interview, Hemsworth explained that he faced a major problem during his days as a fresh actor. He explained that he had to lie about his height,
“There are certainly things I’ve wanted to go up for which I’ve been totally wrong for, physically and I normally lie about my height [6ft 3in] and say I’m shorter. But it can go two ways. The brief for the audition for Thor said: must be over 6ft 1in, which I’d never seen before!”
The shift in Hemsworth’s career came in 2011 when he bagged the role of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The actor claimed that he was 5ft 11in

In 2012, the actor wanted to audition for Red Dawn. However, he couldn’t meet the requirements, so he decided to tell the casting director that he is 5 foot 11 inches in order to get the role. In the movie, Hemsworth starred alongside Josh Hutcherson who is 5 foot 5 inches, so the gap between them looked massive. Even today, the actor struggles with finding roles as he never seems to meet the requirements. Red Dawn managed to gross just over $38 million at the global box office, it’s not really considered a blockbuster hit if we compare it to some of Hemsworth’s best movies.

Chris Hemsworth gained popularity in the early 2010s

Hemsworth’s career first took off when he got a major role in the Australian soap opera, Home and Away in 2004. Till that point, the actor only bagged minor roles in several TV series. In 2009, he got the role of George Kirk in Star Trek, and roughly one year later, Hemsworth played the role of Thor in Thor as part of Phase One of the MCU. He went on to become a crucial part of the MCU and garnered fans all over the world.

Thanks to his striking physical presence, charming personality, and ability to tackle both action and comedic roles, Hemsworth has become one of the most recognizable and successful actors in Hollywood.
