After playing the beloved character, Thor for more than ten years, Australian actor, Chris Hemsworth once got “bored” with the superhero role. Whether it be for his enduring performance as Marvel’s Thor or any of those Netflix-produced series (or films), the actor, 39, earns an incredible Hollywood salary.

Well, since the release of 2011’s Thor, where he played the title role of the God of Thunder, Chris Hemsworth has had a pretty impressive journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, he has appeared in all four Avengers films and has also worked with Taika Waititi to explore the comedic side of the Asgardian in the films Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder.

However, before he began working with Waititi, the Extraction actor once said he had gotten bored with the role.

When Chris Hemsworth Got ‘Bored’ Portraying Thor

Chris Hemsworth believed he could have given more as Thor in the earlier movies because of the way the character was originally portrayed. Even though the actor had great success and popularity playing the part, he still thought it was time for a change. Thankfully, Thor: Ragnorak director, Taika Waititi shared similar opinions.

While promoting Thor: Ragnarok on Jimmy Kimmel Live on October 10, 2017, Hemsworth was in all praise for Waititi and how he managed to bring something new to the MCU.
“Every day was about exploring the unknown and trying something different. I had got pretty bored of myself as that character and so did [Taika], maybe a few people out there [too], so we thought, ‘Let’s do something different’.”

This turned out to be a great idea for the megastar, who admittedly started to find playing Thor a little boring.

It appeared that what they did was successful because Thor: Ragnarok, which was anticipated to be yet another Marvel smash, received nothing but positive reviews in the early going.

Chris Hemsworth ‘Enjoyed’ Avengers: Endgame’s Thor

Chris Hemsworth and Marvel introduced a different Thor in Avengers: Endgame who was not as physically fit as he usually was. The 39-year-old actor once admitted to Variety that portraying this side of Thor was a welcome change of pace.
“I enjoyed that version of Thor. It was so different than any other way I played the character. And then it took on a life of its own.”
However, this also caused a great deal of touching behind the scenes, as many people were curious to know how Thor’s new body felt. The 12 Strong actor further added:
“People just kept coming up and cuddling me like a big bear or rubbing my belly like I was pregnant. Or trying to sit on my lap like I was Santa Claus. You get a lot of affection. I felt like an old man, an old grandpa, with a bunch of kids around. And then you get sick of it when people come up and grab your belly.”

Meanwhile, the actor initially had to face tough competition, while preparing for Thor. But according to him, his initial audition was a failure. The Extraction star once told W magazine:
“I [Chris Hemsworth] came into the audition with Kenneth Branagh and thought I nailed it and then never heard anything back. Months went by and then my brother [Liam Hemsworth], my little brother was in Australia and sent a tape across and he got a callback, then another callback, and then was down to the last kind of four or five people for it.”
