The Dallas Cowboys have been linked with a move for a $230 million quarterback following their new deal with Dak Prescott.
The Cowboys have reached an agreement to restructure Prescott’s contract for next season, but his long-term future at the club is now murky as it appears there could be a parting of ways if he doesn’t take the Cowboys deeper in the playoffs in 2024.
Speculation over Dak’s prospects will likely intensify if there’s no new deal in place by the start of the season.
Prescott has no trade and no franchise tag clauses in his deal that would allow him to hit free agency in 2025. As such, K.D. Drummond of USA Today has surmised that new QB targets could be in the plans for Dallas in the next free agency period, given that they have hardly made moves in this one.

Arizona Cardinals signal-caller Kyler Murray is thought to be one such potential signing.
“Trey Lance, already in Dallas, is in a group of haven’t-yet-established guys along with Justin Fields who is now in Pittsburgh,” he wrote this week. “What if Russell Wilson bounces back with the Steelers? He’s a free agent after next year as well.
“Arizona’s Kyler Murray becomes tradeable in 2025 with a dead cap hit to the Cardinals of $33 million and $12 million of savings if traded, and he has no guarantee money remaining after that season for the acquiring club.”
Murray has gotten an additional $29.9 million fully guaranteed given that he was on Arizona’s roster as of 4:00 PM on Friday. That is on top of the $35.5 million he has guaranteed for this year.
The team seemed to commit to him recently by tweeting, “Our franchise QB.”
Do The Dallas Cowboys Believe They Can Compete For A Super Bowl With Prescott?
Should the Dallas Cowboys opt to move on from Prescott, it would suggest an admission of them being unable to build a contending team around him, especially with the money he wants. However, Murray hasn’t had a better career than the Cowboys QB and is yet to win a playoff game, having made just one appearance in the postseason.
Of course, his career has been plagued by injuries and he only played in eight games last season.
