Dwayne Johnson, better known by his stage name, “The Rock,” has long been a major player in show business.

Johnson has captivated viewers worldwide with his successful wrestling career and his box-office smash movies. Unfortunately, the charismatic actor has suffered significant financial losses due to his public feud with his Fast and Furious co-star, John Cena.

The Epic Feud: Dwayne Johnson vs. John Cena

Dwayne Johnson and John Cena established themselves as stars in the WWE before moving on to the movie industry. Cena was starting to make his mark on the film industry when Johnson was already a huge star.

However, problems between the two stars surfaced when Cena publicly criticized Johnson for abandoning WWE for acting. The WWE saw an opportunity to cash in on the star power of both Johnson and Cena, even though they had significant differences.

The two legends squared off in several matches that the wrestling world eagerly anticipated, with their feud reaching its climax at WrestleMania. The matches became landmarks in wrestling lore and attracted widespread attention.

Johnson paid a hefty sum for one of these matches, which the general public might not know. Dwayne Johnson’s luck ran out during their match at WrestleMania 29 in 2013. He was seriously hurt, affecting his health for the rest of his life.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Johnson said that he suffered three hernia tears, a torn abductor tendon, and a torn rectus tendon. He had emergency hernia surgery because the pain and swelling were so bad.
“About midway through the match, I tore my abductor tendon, as well as my rectus tendon, completely off my pelvis. And then I found out that I had three wonderful hernia tears.” Johnson continued, “There’s a lot of fun swelling in the ‘cash and prizes’ area for the first week and a half. Those were sexy times…It’s a lot of fun pain to go through.”
Johnson’s injury, alas, has lasting repercussions even now. In a 2021 Wired Autocomplete Interview, he addressed criticisms of his stomach by noting that he had suffered an injury that tore the top of his quad from his pelvis, setting off a chain reaction that tore his abdominal wall.

This necessitated immediate surgery to repair three hernias, altering the appearance of his abdominal muscles. The cost was enormous in terms of lost lives and dollars lost. The opportunity for Dwayne Johnson to return to the WWE and feud with John Cena was a huge moneymaker for both parties involved.

The Financial Blow: Losses in the Millions

Dwayne Johnson reportedly made an astounding $10 million for his 2011 film Fast Five role. However, the actor’s father, Rocky Johnson, detailed the devastating financial impact of his son’s injury. Rocky Johnson claims that his son’s movie production was halted because of the hernia he sustained during his match with Cena.

Johnson claims his son lost $200,000 daily due to the hold-up, for a grand total of $4.2 million. While Rocky Johnson’s numbers could be exaggerated, it is common knowledge that movie production delays can have serious financial consequences.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has overcome many obstacles in pursuing his dreams in wrestling and acting. He has repeatedly shown that he is strong enough to triumph over adversity. His feud with John Cena may have cost him a lot of money, but it hasn’t dimmed his star power or ability to captivate fans worldwide.
