Vin Diesel is one of the most successful action movie stars currently working in Hollywood. Dwayne Johnson has forged his career as an action star coming from WWE as well and his feat is remarkable. But The Rock is far from achieving Diesel’s success.

Both action megastars have appeared in several movies building their fortune. Johnson joined the Fast and Furious franchise appearing in Fast Five in 2011 while Diesel established the franchise taking it to a new height. But looking at the payday of the actors, it is easier to define who is a bigger star.
Here’s Why Vin Diesel is a Bigger Star
Vin Diesel
Dwayne Johnson’s success in Hollywood is nothing but remarkable, the wrestler-turned-actor has made fortunes appearing in action movies since his debut in The Mummy Returns in 2001. However, the Red Notice star is too far away to match Vin Diesel’s established action legacy. The Fast and Furious co-stars, also known for their rivalry, have earned millions for their roles but Johnson was crowned as the highest-paid actor in the world.
Reportedly, Johnson was paid a whopping $50 million paycheck for his role in Jake Kasdan’s Christmas-themed film Red One. That is a remarkable achievement for the actor but looking at the box office earnings, the comparison of the stars is pretty interesting.
In his acting career spanning 20 years, Johnson has appeared in 41 movies while Diesel has appeared in 39 movies. As per the numbers, the box office return of Johnson’s new movies amounts to $3,633,978,024. Diesel is a little ahead with $3,962,392,752 in returns. While Johnson’s DC debut as Black Adam has failed, Diesel’s MCU role as the character Groot has seen remarkable success at the box office. The actor earned $54 million from the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise making him a bigger star than The Rock.
The End of Rivalry
Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel are friends again
Johnson and Diesel’s infamous rivalry escalated in 2016 after Johnson publicly revealed his dispute with an unspecified male co-star from the Fast and Furious franchise and left the franchise. It later became apparent that he was talking about Diesel. Later, the MCU star publicly asked Johnson to return to the series but Johnson declined claiming to never return to play Luke Hobbs again.
However, it all changed when fans witnessed the actor in the post-credit scene of Fast X. So, is Johnson returning to the franchise after all, or more importantly, has the rivalry between the stars ended? Yes, the Skyscraper actor is definitely coming back, and as far as their rivalry is concerned, Johnson revealed that they have resolved their differences.
“Your reactions around the world to Hobbs’ return in ‘Fast X’ have blown us away. The next ‘Fast & Furious’ film you’ll see the legendary lawman in will be the Hobbs movie that will serve as a fresh, new chapter & set up for ‘Fast X: Part II.’ Last summer, Vin Diesel and I put all the past behind us. We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve – and always take care of the franchise, characters & fans that we love. I’ve built my career on an ‘audience first’ mentality and that will always serve as my north star,” Johnson announced on social media.
Reportedly, Louis Leterrier-directed Fast X: Part II will be landing on April 4th, 2025 where fans will get to see the action of Hobbs in the action-packed thriller.
