The WNBA continues to rise in popularity and Dwyane Wade has been one of its ambassadors. Upon the announcement that a brand new Chicago Sky practice facility will be arriving sometime during the 2026 season, the 13-time NBA All-Star reacted in excitement by posting a gif on X, formerly known as “Twitter.”
Besides being known for being one of the most elite shooting guards in NBA history, the Heat legend is also known for being part of the Sky’s ownership group. Chicago has been the talk of the WNBA town after drafting Angel Reese, who already has 17 double-doubles.
Wade’s reaction isn’t the first time he has shown support for the latest developments involving the franchise.
Back on July 18, the new Phoenix Mercury facility was also unveiled with players Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner making an appearance during its opening. This latest announcement involving the Sky franchise is part of the continuous developments transpiring around the WNBA. The team also reported that the practice facility cost $38 million in its construction.

When Dwyane Wade joined the partnership group of the Chicago Sky, he highlighted timing and the potential to do something incredible as the foundation of his decision, as per Chicago Tribune’s Shakeia Taylor.
“Why the Sky? Because I’m a fan of basketball,” Wade said. “I love it to my core. It’s changed my life. It’s changed my family’s life. And I understand the need for support. … We’ve got some of the best players in the world playing in the ‘W’ and we’ve got the most generational players coming real soon. And it just feels like the time. … We’re on the cusp.”
Before the arrival of the promising 2024 rookie class, the WNBA experienced a steady rise, gaining more popularity and recognition for moving the game of basketball forward. With rookie sensations Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese joining the forefront of the charge, Wade highlighted this moment as an important step for the growth of the league.
Watching the games is one thing, but the former Heat star wanted to do more for the league by investing in one of their teams.

“You have fan bases drawn to Caitlin Clark because of who she is and what she represents,” Wade said, “and you have fanbases drawn to Angel Reese because of who she is and what she represents. Which brings in more attention, more sellouts, more jersey sellouts.”
From merchandise sales to the league’s fanbase continuing to grow, Wade could not help but was left in awe of what the two rookies are doing to the game. There may be a lot of narratives and comparisons made to further drive the two athletes apart, but the Heat legend prefers to appreciate them both for who they are.
