Team USA Coach Cheryl Reeve Doesn’t Second Guess Caitlin Clark Olympics Omission

Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve is coaching Team USA against Team WNBA in the All-Star Game, as she is the coach of the Olympics women’s basketball team heading to Paris as well. The format of the exhibition has led to a ton of hype, in part because Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark will be going against the roster she was notably left off. So it was only natural that Reeve was asked whether there was any second guessing on her part about the decision to not have Clark a part of the U.S. squad before the festivities. She replied simply, “From me? No.”

In fairness to Reeve she was likely speaking in regards to her capacity as coach, which means coaching the players who are selected. She also made it a point to celebrate just how big this WNBA All-Star weekend has become saying, “It is one of the greatest spectacles I think in the history of our league.”

Clark and Reeve recently met up during a contest between the Fever and the Lynx that resulted in a win for Indiana. Caitlin gestured to the supportive road crowd in Minnesota in a moment that only further emphasized the overwhelming popularity of the first-year star. That was in the midst of her scoring 10-points in the decisive fourth quarter.

Of course the lack of her selection for the Olympics is in the past, but Clark has certainly made the case that not bringing her to Paris was a mistake. That coming through her play, as CC looks to be the best point guard in the W already, while breaking records.
