The NFL has yet to announce who will perform at halftime of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans this coming February, but Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson feel there’s one artist who would make a worthy selection. Speaking on the latest episode of their “Calm Down” podcast, the two made the argument for Taylor Swift to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

“For you Swifties and for you non-Swifties,” Andrews said. “Charissa and I did the best we could about delivering our opening and closing remarks about why the NFL has to have, this year, Taylor Swift as their Super Bowl Halftime Show.”

Swift, arguably the biggest musical star in the world, has never performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, but has become a trendy pick thanks to her new connection to the NFL. The “Cruel Summer” singer is currently dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and attended several games last season. Swift was present for the Chiefs’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers in this past February’s Super Bowl LVIII and celebrated on the field with Kelce.

Thompson added that while Swift doesn’t need to do it, it would further help cement her legacy.

“On the heels of all of the nonsense from last year,” Thompson said. “The Chads and dads that didn’t want her to be shown on television… bringing in not only the revenue, but also the new audience of young women or girls and boys that didn’t watch but love her. She’s never done it and there’s no bigger star in the world. Does she need to do it? No, of course she doesn’t need to do it.

“But this is what we were talking about, Michael Jackson didn’t need to do the halftime Super Bowl performance, but he did. Whitney Houston didn’t need to sing the national anthem, but she did. Taylor, if you’re listening, your resume is full of everything. You have done it all, but don’t you want to also say that you have performed at a Super Bowl halftime?”

Taylor Swift helps NFL’s business boom

The NFL’s business was booming last year, large in part thanks to Swift. Front Office Sports reported earlier this year that Swift had generated an equivalent brand value of $331.5 million for both entities. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, speaking with reporters ahead of this past Super Bowl, addressed the impact Swift has had on the league.

“She’s an extraordinary performer,” Goodell said. “I think this is just about welcoming people into the game. It’s giving people a different perspective of the game. It’s giving them an opportunity to say, ‘Wow, that’s exciting.’ And I see it. I see it with others. I see it with their friends… We see the data. People are talking about the game that weren’t talking about the game yesterday.

“And whatever that reason is, I’m good with it, as long as they get exposure to our game. Taylor is obviously a dynamo. Everything she touches, there are people following. And so, we count ourselves as fortunate and we welcome it.”
