Arike Ogunbowale posted 34 points for Team WNBA against Team USA, but hyped Clark up after the game
Arike Ogunbowale stunned fans at the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game with an amazing 34-point haul, but selflessly heaped the praise onto the Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark by giving her a unique nickname: The Future.
Clark, the record NCAA points’ holder, didn’t manage to find her shooting boots at the Footprint Center in Team WNBA’s 117-109 victory over Team USA on July 20, but she did turn creator with 10 assists in her debut appearance.
Caitlin Clark sets up assist to Angel Reese before anybody else could see it
She fell two assists shy of smashing Sue Bird’s record of 12 but still earned praise for her ability to connect with the Dallas Wings’ Ogunbowale and the Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese to help shock the cards in a game Team USA were expected to win.
On July 23, Clark posted the photos to Instagram in a collage with 10 photos of the 22-year-old ex-Iowa Hawkeye captioned, “First WNBA All-Star” as fans poured in to celebrate her efforts and so did her peers, including Ogunbowale as she praised her as “the future” on the social media platform.
Who do the Dallas Wings play next?
It’s a very high compliment from the Wings’ 27-year-old star after she shot for 34 points, six assists and three rebounds on her way to winning the WNBA All-Star Game MVP award as she continues her fine season.
It now means the Notre Dame alumni has posted an average of 22.3 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 5.2 assists per game through 2024, helping the Wings to six wins through the campaign in a challenging year that sees them .240.
The Wings are now on summer break, where they will hope to improve their form in the second half of the season. Their first chance to do so will be on the road against the Connecticut Suns on Friday, August 16.
