Following Friday night’s intense showdown between the UConn Huskies and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Final Four, allegations of foul play emerged from an unexpected source: a former NFL star.
The game, which promised a thrilling climax, took a sour turn due to a controversial late call that left fans feeling robbed of a potentially exhilarating finish. An illegal screen foul called against UConn’s Aaliyah Edwards in the waning moments of the match granted possession back to Iowa, effectively quashing any chance for the Huskies to seize the lead with a last-ditch shot.
Reacting to the contentious call, numerous individuals vented their frustrations on social media platforms, among them former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.
“This game was extremely rigged,” he wrote via Twitter/X. “They H- d UConn.”
He returned to the platform shortly after, however, making it clear that he didn’t believe the game was rigged, but that the referee should have never made such a call at that juncture.
