Taylor Swift seems like she’s headed for a slew of new Grammy nominations in a few months–but what else is new? The superstar has a lot of music eligible for possible recognition, including another blockbuster album. She’s sure to end up being in the running for plenty of prizes–but this year, she may appear in a category she’s never competed in before.
The singer-songwriter is eligible for a spot in the Best Music Film category. Not only is she a possible nominee, she’s a very likely one–and she may even already be a frontrunner for the prize.
Swift will almost surely be nominated for the Grammy that recognizes full-length feature films about music or which feature largely musical performances. Her concert movie Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which made history when it was released last fall, could beat the competition and help her add to her legacy.
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour shattered every record when it came to box office receipts. The concert film, which was shot during several of the Los Angeles stops on her massively successful The Eras Tour, earned more than a quarter-billion dollars globally. That made it one of the most successful releases of any kind in theaters of 2023, let alone when it came to music content.
Both fans and critics alike applauded Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. Even if they hadn’t, it’s hard for Grammy voters to avoid something so massively successful.
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will mark Swift’s first time competing for Best Music Film. She has released eligible projects in the past, but so far, she’s never been nominated for the award. She should be considered a frontrunner for the honor, but she hasn’t won it yet.
The superstar–and Grammy favorite–will face some tough competition. Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé was released a few weeks after Swift’s film, and it, too, was a huge commercial win. While it might not have raked in as much money, many critics heaped praise upon the production. It will also surely be nominated, and it could easily win.
Eligibility for the 2025 Grammys runs from September 16, 2023 through August 30, 2024. The nominees will be named on November 8, and the sixty-seventh annual Grammy Awards will be held on February 2, 2025.
