Former Disney Child Star Britney Spears Goes Up Against Fellow Popstar Taylor Swift as Re-release of Her 2002 Film Clashes With Eras Tour Movie

Britney Spears will grace the big screens once again as her 2002 film Crossroads gets a re-release. As the pop star’s first feature role, it transformed her Hollywood career in many ways. Penned by Shonda Rhimes and helmed by Tamra Davis, the teen drama movie also starred Anson Mount, Zoe Saldaña, Taryn Manning, Kim Cattrall, and Dan Aykroyd.

Crossroads was considered a massive box office hit, grossing over $61 million worldwide against a production budget of merely $12 million. Even though it was critically panned, fans commended Spears’ performance.

Britney Spears’ Crossroads Movie Comes Back To The Big Screen

Britney Spears’ coming-of-age film Crossroads will only return in theaters for two nights, October 23 and 25, perfectly timed for the release of her memoir The Woman in Me on October 24.

This means that the Princess of Pop’s road-trip flick will contend against Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film. Opening on October 13, the country-pop musician’s much-anticipated movie will be playing all across the globe.

Director Tamra Davis said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter that she felt the element of nostalgia in this movie and praised Spears for her acting skills. She stated:
“I recently rewatched Crossroads and was so enthralled with the time capsule of nostalgia that this incredible ensemble cast brings to the screen. Britney is absolutely breathtaking to watch, and Shonda is showing us her early expertise in writing complicated female characters.”
The global fan event will include two bonus sing-alongs from Spears that fans have never seen on the big screen. RCA Records will also release Crossroads: Special Edition, which contains the following soundtrack remixes: “Overprotected” (Richi Lopez Remix), “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” (Snakehips Remix) and “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” (Frank Walker Remix).

Simon & Schuster Imprint Gallery Books’ Senior VP and Publisher of Spears’ memoir, Jennifer Bergstrom, noted the importance of the singer’s influence in pop culture:
“This special global theatrical rerelease of Crossroads is a gift to Britney’s fans and a reminder of her enormous impact on pop culture worldwide.”

Crossroads’ official movie synopsis reads:
“With barely a plan, practically no money but plenty of dreams, the girls catch a lift with Mimi’s handsome friend Ben in his convertible. Along the way they not only gather experiences that will change their lives, but they also discover how important it is to hold onto their hearts’ desires.”
Britney Spears’ Crossroads will arrive in 875 movie theaters in 24 countries. AMC Theaters will also offer a special VIP screening on October 23, which includes a special edition of Spears’ memoir with an event ticket purchase.

Britney Spears’ Co-Star Defends Her From The Paparazzi

As Britney Spears has not been in the spotlight for years, one of her co-stars revealed what it was like working with the singer. Justin Long, who starred as Henry in Crossroads and had a brief fling with Spears’ character, recalled how “down-to-earth” she was. He told ET Online:
“I remember being struck by how normal and easygoing she seemed for all the hoopla surrounding her, and then a couple years later seeing what the paparazzi did to her, it was really sad that we live in that kind of culture that can do that to a human being. She was so nice to everyone.”
Spears’ timely release of her memoir, The Woman in Me, will discuss her 13-year conservatorship that was terminated in 2021 after she petitioned to suspend her father from being the conservator of her estate.
