Niall Horan, John Legend, Gwen Stefani And Reba McEntire Teamed Up For The First Time To Perform On The Voice In A New Video Released Ahead Of Monday’s Season 24 Premiere.
The video shows former One Direction member and reigning Voice champ Niall Horan kick off the performance of The Eagles’ legendary hit, “Take It Easy.” Horan nails the opening line followed by veteran coaches John Legend and Gwen Stefani taking a turn before first-time coach and country music legend Reba McEntire joins in. The four coaches came together to sing the remaining familiar lyrics in harmony.
While the coaches have shared plenty of behind-the-scenes footage leading up to the new season, this was the first time we had seen the new lineup perform together.
History Of The Eagles’ “Take It Easy”
“Take It Easy” was The Eagles’ first hit song and the debut single from their self-titled debut album in 1971. While the song saw massive success and became a signature song for the band, it became a crossover hit when Travis Tritt released his own rendition in 1993.
The band, who had split 13 years prior, agreed to appear in Travis’s video for the song, per the artist’s request. Five former members of The Eagles showed up for Tritt, and that is reportedly what led to The Eagles’ reunion. The band has performed ever since, with some personnel shake ups along the way.
In 2016, founding member and “Take It Easy” co-writer, Glenn Frey, died at the age of 67. Founding bassist, Randy Meisner passed away in 2023, just a few weeks after the band announced their farewell tour, The Long Goodbye Tour.
“Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle,” The Eagles said in a statement announcing their farewell tour.
The performance of “Take It Easy” by The Voice coaches marked a poignant tribute to The Eagles and is a testament to their impact on music industry.
