Samuel L Jackson has collected some of the most iconic characters throughout his career. From playing the role of Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to playing the role of Jules Winnfield in the cult classic, Pulp Fiction, being a part of the Hitman series, and appearing in Star Wars, it seems that if it a successful franchise, it will have Jackson in it. His role in Star Wars as Mace Windu is certainly one of the most significant of the bunch.

Being referred to as the ‘Baddest Jedi’ in the galaxy, coming next to Yoda, this character was one of the most memorable in the Star Wars prequel movies. Being as significant as he was, feared across the galaxy for his traditional Jedi ways, unconventional combat techniques, and purple lightsaber, there is no surprise that when the character passed away, he went in the blaze of glory. It would seem, the reason for this was a condition that was put forth by Jackson himself.

Samuel L Jackson Had An Interesting Reaction To His Character’s Death

It is quite common for actors, who have stuck around and played iconic characters, to get attached to these characters and try to talk writers out of killing them off. It is also common for an actor to be fine with the characters passing, even though they are attached to them. They feel this way simply because it would help with their storyline or the general storyline of the project itself. It would seem that the latter was the case here.

Samuel L Jackson, according to IMDb, had quite an odd reaction when he found out that his character would be passing away. The actor wasn’t very bothered by the fact that his character would be dying, however, he did have one condition that he put forth to the director of the film, George Lucas.

Samuel L Jackson Had One Condition

When Samuel L Jackson found out that Mace Windu would be dying, he had one demand from director, George Lucas. The actor told him that he simply did not want this character, who is an iconic figure in this franchise, to have an underwhelming, or in his words ‘punk’, death. He did not want himself and the audience to feel unsatisfied when this happened.

“I don’t mind dying, I just don’t wanna go out like some punk.”
This sentiment is extremely understandable as many in the past have wanted that, if their characters are dying, their death does justice to their life. They do not want underwhelming or even embarrassing deaths for the characters as they, not only signify a lot for the actors themselves, but they signify a lot for the audience as well.
