With a notable height difference between the two Thor: The Dark World co-stars, Chris Hemsworth, towering at 6 foot 3 inches, and Natalie Portman, who stands at a petite 5 foot 3 inches, their on-screen romantic scenes posed an interesting challenge. During a guest appearance on CONAN, the host couldn’t resist asking Hemsworth about the visual tricks employed to ensure their on-screen kisses looked natural despite the significant height contrast.

“There was one time when we kissed, and she had to stand on a box basically,” said Hemsworth. “But this [other] time we had to walk into a scene towards each other and embrace and kiss. And it looked silly her going like this (making a sudden upward motion with his hand). So what they did is they built a ramp. It was a nice gradual lift to the kiss. So she would walk up a ramp as we kissed.”
During an interview, Natalie Portman also revealed that due to scheduling conflicts, she was unable to participate in the reshoots for certain scenes in the film. This included the planned reshoot of the liplock scene between Thor and Jane, for which she was unavailable. As a result, a body double was employed to stand in for the scene- who ended up being none other than Elsa Pataky.
