There is also a movie in which the actress has delivered one of the strongest performances of her career. The film’s name is — Her, based on the story of Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix), who forms a relationship with Samantha (Scarlett Johansson) — an AI virtual assistant with a female voice.
But she was, in fact, not the first actor to play Samantha in Her because there was already another actress who was approached for the film’s original voice actress.

Her is a powerful film that explores the complex intricacies of human connection and technology’s role in our lives. The movie is worth watching if you’re seeking a unique cinematic journey that will make you laugh, cry, and think deeply about human relationships.
Scarlett Johansson, who voiced Samantha, also did a fantastic job in giving her role a narrative. But it was Samantha Morton who was first going to appear in the movie. Spike Jonze (writer, director, and co-producer of the film) told Vulture:
“It was only in post-production, when we started editing, that we realized that what the character/movie needed was different from what Samantha and I had created together. So we recast and since then Scarlett has taken over that role.”
Jonze praised Morton’s performance, stating, “Samantha was with us on set and was amazing.” But he didn’t go into specifics about the recasting. As the director put it, the switch to Johansson was the result of his “not-quite-painless-for-everyone-involved process.”
Morton was present on the set with Joaquin Phoenix every day. After the filming wrapped and the director started editing the movie, he felt like something was wrong — that’s why he chose the diva with a unique voice — with the proper amalgamation of husky and seductive.

The Lucy actress is known for her lower alto-tone voice with a hint of texture and grit. Johansson star began her career at nine with the film North, but she originally wanted to work in musical theatre until casting directors rejected her due to her deep voice. She told Candis magazine (via Daily Mail) that:
“When I was a little kid, I trained as a singer because I really wanted to do musical theatre, but my voice was so deep it was impossible for me to get cast! So I went into acting instead,” Johansson, 35, told Candis magazine.
The Hollywood star started acting at a young age, but she said that earlier, she was constantly rejected by commercials:
“They never liked me, because of my voice, and I would have these huge temper tantrums afterward. My mom and I were in the subway once, and I was having some temper tantrum, and I’d just come from this commercial. She was like, ‘You know what? We’re not going out for commercial auditions anymore.’”
Despite the rejections and criticism about her voice, Scarlett Johansson remains one of Hollywood’s most attractive and talented women.
