Oscar Isaac is no stranger to major franchises, having played roles in X-Men, Star Wars, and Dune. However, it was his performance as Marc Spector / Steven Grant in the Marvel miniseries Moon Knight that earned him critical acclaim. The Ex Machina actor was impeccable portraying a superhero with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

Oscar Isaac’s Choice For His Favorite Superhero Movie
Oscar Isaac’s pick for his favorite MCU film – Iron Man
After having played a superhero and supervillain himself, Oscar Isaac knows a thing or two about superhero films. The Drive actor also voiced Spider-Man 2099 in Sony’s latest animated film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. During a promotional interview for Moon Knight, Isaac shared with the media that his all-time favorite MCU film is Iron Man.
In the interview with On Demand Entertainment, the discussion turned to Isaac’s character being praised and compared to Iron Man. The Sucker Punch actor was clearly delighted that his role was being compared to the iconic superhero. Isaac stated:
“That’s high praise. You know, that first Iron Man is my favourite … it’s still my favourite Marvel movie.”
The Mojave actor further explained that Iron Man was used as a reference for the Moon Knight team to effectively introduce their superhero to the audience. Earlier, Ethan Hawke also made a comparison between Moon Knight and Iron Man, suggesting Jeremy Slater’s project would give Robert Downey Jr. a run for his money.

Oscar Isaac’s Traditional Pick Highlights The Importance Of Iron Man In The Superhero Genre
Robert Downey Jr. with Iron Man director Jon Favreau
As Oscar Isaac pointed out, Iron Man will forever remain as some people’s favorite superhero film. Not only that, it will also mark the film that revived the genre into a commercially viable venture, even resulting in a $29 billion franchise. Interestingly, Isaac’s Moon Knight also came at a crucial point for Marvel Phase 4, which saw the beginning of the dip in the quality of Marvel movies.
In yet another interesting fact, fans might never have seen Robert Downey Jr. as the charismatic Tony Stark if not for Iron Man director Jon Favreau. Favreau, who also played Happy Hogan, vouched for Downey Jr. and even fought with the studio to cast him. Explaining his decision to cast the Oppenheimer actor, Favreau stated:
“The best and worst moments of Robert’s life have been in the public eye. He had to find an inner balance to overcome obstacles that went far beyond his career. That’s Tony Stark.”
Favreau’s insight was spot on, as the Sherlock Holmes actor convincingly brought out the internal struggles of Tony Stark in the film that grossed $585 million at the box office. While Oscar Isaac embodied two distinct characters, mercenary Marc Spector and the museum gift-shop employee Steven Grant, Downey Jr. had to portray both the charming playboy billionaire and the vulnerable orphaned superhero, two sides of a single character.
