Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson are one of the most loved best friend pairs of all time.

Renowned ever since the incredible relationship they shared on-screen as Hawkeye and the Black Widow, the duo have developed a heartwarming friendship over the years. So much so that they never cease to bring a smile to the other’s face, even in the toughest of situations.

Something similar happened during an interview where both Renner and Johansson were present when, because of a terrible question that the Black Widow actress was repeatedly asked, the Hawkeye star struggled to keep a straight face on, in what is famously called ‘the most awful interview’ he has ever had with his best pal Johansson.

Although both Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson have been in hilarious situations before with the rest of their Avengers teammates, this one was, by far, the most awful one they had been into date. All because of one personal question that fans have been dying to know the answer to: Whether the Natasha Romanoff portrayer was able to wear undergarments under her costume.

So when the interviewer, too, raised this question during the interview video by extratv, the Under the Skin actress couldn’t help but let out her frustration. Already renowned for her blunt and straightforward self, Johansson called out the interviewer, saying,
“You are the, like, fifth person to ask me that. What is going on? Since when did people start asking each other about in interviews about their underwear?”
The interviewer was clearly taken aback by her sudden outburst and tried to explain that he didn’t mean to hurt her feelings but was only asking because her Black Widow costume was a pretty skin-tight one. ScarJo, however, wasn’t willing to give in yet. In an evidently annoyed yet witty stance, she answered:
“I’ll leave it up to your imagination. Whatever you think I should be wearing or not under that costume.”
Since the question was indeed a rather peculiar one and Scarlett Johansson‘s answer an even more twisted one, Jeremy Renner couldn’t help but burst out laughing at the hilariously awful situation he was stuck in.

How Jeremy Renner Ceased Fire Between Scarlett Johansson And The Interviewer

While that was embarrassing enough, the interview was far from over. Realizing that Scarlett Johansson had taken his question a bit too much to heart, the interviewer went on to ask her if it was inappropriate to ask someone the question he asked her in the video from extratv. To this, the Lucy star gave a fierce reply saying:
“To ask somebody what kind of underpants they wear?”
The interviewer then tried to steer clear that he didn’t ask her ‘what kind’ but rather if she was wearing anything underneath. Sarcastically, Johansson remarked:
“You just asked me if I was wearing any.”
Here, the trying-super-hard-to-keep-a-straight-face Jeremy Renner realized that the situation was getting a bit too out of hand and intervened in the conversation to try and cease the fire between Johansson and the interviewer. He clarified:
“No, [he meant to ask] what did you wear underneath that superhero costume?”
Finally giving in, Johansson replied:
“Overalls. You wear dungarees. Well, you can’t wear clothes under it, it’s like a wet suit practically.”
Before adding:
“Well, I don’t know. Maybe it’s a little bit more than a wet suit. [But] was I wearing underwear? I mean. Gosh. Ask Joss. [Interviewer: I did!] What? You asked Joss what kind of underwear he wears? What kind of interview is this?!”
Thankfully, the playful banter ended right there and Jeremy Renner heaved a sigh of relief as the interviewer steered the conversation to a different direction. Regardless, neither the Hawkeye star nor the Black Widow actress has had a more embarrassingly awful interview than this one ever since!
