Jerry Rice explodes over questions about Patrick MahomesJerry Rice explodes over questions about Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs (GETTY)

Jerry Rice loves the San Francisco 49ers very much. From 1985 to 2000, he was a key component of their dynasty, winning three Super Bowls, among other accolades. He was named the MVP of the Super Bowl XXIII and set multiple receiving records that will likely not be broken, at least for a long time.

However, the 49ers have been less successful in the 21st century, making only three Super Bowls and losing two of them to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The aforementioned two defeats seem to be a sore point for the Hall of Fame wide receiver, who verbally lashed out at a pair of reporters who were asking him about Patrick Mahomes and company at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament on Thursday.

The TMZ video below shows him yelling.

“I will f*** you up! If you want some, come get some,” Rice said.

After he walked away, the perplexed reporters said:

“That’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened in my life.”

When approached by TMZ for comment the next day, Rice claimed that the reporters had fully intended to agitate him:

“I’m going to defend the San Francisco 49ers,” Rice said. “This is my history.”

Jerry Rice discusses Brandon Aiyuk’s contract standoff at American Century Championship

Speaking of the 21st-century 49ers, their wide receivers have been bound to get a Jerry Rice comparison. During the early 2000s, it was Terrell Owens. Then, after a long period of dearth, it was Michael Crabtree.

Nowadays, it is either Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel. But with the latter getting a decent three-year extension in 2022 after establishing himself as one of the NFL’s best dual-threat players, the former is still awaiting his big-money extension amidst rumors he wants out.

While speaking to NBC Sports Bay Area on Wednesday at the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, Rice said:

“Play football and just let his ability speak for itself, and we’ll see what happens after the season. That’s in his control. … I think he would love to have had that security already, and he wouldn’t have to really think about it and he can just go play football. But he still has an opportunity where he can just showcase his ability.”

He continued:

“He’s got to show everybody that, ‘Hey, look, I’m that No. 1 guy. And if you, make me that No. 1 guy, I’m going to be productive.'”

Aiyuk’s fifth-year option is set to earn him $14.124 million.

49ers practice resumes on Tuesday with rookies reporting. Veterans will report a week later, and fans will be able to attend beginning on July 25.
