And Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves became the number one on-screen couple, who later revealed to have been crushing on each other ever since the shoot of their movie.

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have often talked about wanting to work with each other after having starred in the multi-million-dollar project, Speed. Both of them even went ahead to accept that they had a crush on each other while they were working on the movie together. Given their liking for each other and the success of the film, it was natural that they would come back for Speed 2.

However, when the time came about for a sequel, Reeves decided to let go of the opportunity even though he was offered a gigantic sum of $12 million. Talking about it, he said in an interview,
“At the time, I just didn’t respond to the script. I really wanted to work with Sandra Bullock, and I really loved playing Jack Traven. It wasn’t against any of the artists that were involved in the project, but at that time — I’m sure we’ve all had this kind of feeling sometimes when things just don’t feel right, and that was how I was feeling. I loved ‘Speed,’ but… now it’s on an ocean liner?”
Even though Reeves might have missed the opportunity to star alongside his crush and a salary of $12 million, the Matrix star made the right call as the sequel failed spectacularly.

On the set of Speed, when Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves’s characters were falling for each other on-screen, Bullock and Reeves too developed a crush on each other off-screen. Years later they even confessed on different occasions that they liked each other back then. But despite the mutual likeliness they ended up forming a long platonic relationship that still continues to this day.

In an interview in 2021, the Gravity star revealed that the reason they never got together was that it would have ruined their friendship. While fans continue to contemplate how it would have been to see their favorite stars get together in reality, the two co-stars and friends are in a happy relationship with their respective partners.
