Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has successfully topped the ladder climbing up to be Hollywood’s one of most successful movie franchises in history. A total of five films of the franchise have collectively earned over $4.524 billion at the global box office setting a landmark of success for the franchise. However, many believe that it would have not been possible without Johnny Depp playing the drunken Captain Jack Sparrow as he was the perfect fit for the character integrating the character’s traits to a whole new level.

Depp also had a fair share of the lofty success of the franchise. The actor received a hefty paycheck of a staggering $650 million in the five films. Directed by Gore Verbinski, the first film of the franchise Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was an instant hit grossing over $654.3 million at the box office. While Depp was paid a sum of $10 million for his role, the incredible success of the film helped the actor increase of staggering salary in the following films.

Depp had a base salary of  $20 million for the sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, released in 2006. However, that amount was increased with an additional $40 million from the film’s backend making his total earnings a staggering $60 million from the movie. In the third installment, Depp received $50 million,  $55 million in the fourth while for the fifth movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales the actor received a whopping $90 million.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Depp is currently in possession of a $150 million fortune. The actor has made massive money playing iconic characters in movies that have uplifted Depp’s career to a more impressive height. Following his massive paychecks received from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the actor candidly told The Hollywood Reporter that he has earned that amount of money for his kids, further admitting that the franchise has overcompensated the Edward Scissorhands actor.
“Basically, if they’re going to pay me the stupid money right now, I’m going to take it. I have to. I mean, it’s not for me. Do you know what I mean? At this point, it’s for my kids. It’s ridiculous, yeah, yeah. But ultimately is it for me? No. No. It’s for the kids,” Depp said.
Depp is a proud father of two kids, his son Jack and daughter Lily-Rose whom he shares with his ex-partner Vanessa Paradis. The actor is very fond of his kids, “I’m totally inspired by them,” he once told Britain’s Psychologies magazine. Now, Lily-Rose Depp is a rising star, currently in the news after being featured in  HBO’s upcoming series The Idol. Earlier, The Sleepy Hollow told Daily Mail that he and his daughter are “super-tight and I’m very proud of our relationship.” Contrary to Rose, Depp’s son Jack has stayed out of the spotlight.

Depp recently appeared in the French romance film Jeanne du Barry which was released on 16 May 2023.
