Josh Hartnett recently attended a Taylor Swift concert with two of his four children, and he later said his new role in the thriller Trap helped him understand the ‘fervor’ of the pop star’s diehard fans.
The 46-year-old actor — who shares his kids with wife Tamsin Egerton — stars in the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan film, in which a father and his teenage daughter attend a concert and later discover they’re involved in ‘a dark and sinister event,’ per an official logline.
He called the experience of seeing one of Taylor’s live shows in London ‘bizarre’ after having shot the movie.
‘The fervor that exists at those concerts, the way that everyone is so connected to the artist, I think Night really captures in this movie,’ Josh gushed about the renowned director.
Speaking with Extra, he explained the parallel: ‘I did the movie before I went to one of those [Swift] concerts. I didn’t really know [what to expect] and it felt to me like these people have lost their absolute minds.’
The actor elaborated about shooting the thriller, in which his character attends the fictional music artist Lady Raven’s (played by real life singer Saleka) concert: ‘Like, all the kids were so obsessed — and they’ve been given Lady Raven’s music beforehand and they became genuine fans — and they were all singing along and going crazy.
‘It was exactly what I experienced at the Taylor Swift concert, basically.’
Hartnett mostly keeps his family out of the spotlight, but said he attended Taylor’s Eras Tour with his daughters who are eight and seven-years-old.
‘My girls are now sort of old enough to go to these things,’ Josh said about treating his little ones to the record-breaking international tour.
He added, ‘I wanted to give them exactly what they wanted, the whole experience, and we did and they had such a wonderful time.’
The Black Mirror star also recently noted in an interview with E! News that he would like to take on more age-appropriate acting roles for them.
‘If someone were to offer me a movie that my kids could watch, I would take it in an instant,’ he said.
He mused, ‘But because of the way Hollywood works now, they see me in a different light, and I don’t know if I get those roles now. We’ll see.’
Hartnett and Egerton’s first child was born in 2015, followed by another in 2017, and a third in 2019.
In February, Josh let slip that he and Tamsin quietly welcomed a fourth child.
‘I have four kids, I live in the countryside. I’m busy either working or taking care of them, but thank you. That’s really kind,’ he answered when asked if he knew about the Josh Hartnett Renaissance trending on social media.
He and his wife married in 2021 after meeting on the set of The Lovers in the 2010s.
