Joyner Lucas has returned with a new track titled “Devil’s Work Part 2,” where he reimagines a world that can reverse celebrity deaths, eliminate social justice issues and overturn pop culture tragedies.
Released on Thursday (March 9), the song will live on Joyner’s forthcoming album, Not Now, I’m Busy. On the track, the songwriter envisions a world that reverses Will Smith‘s infamous Oscars slap as well as Pop Smoke’s death, Tory Lanez’s case with Megan Thee Stallion and more.
“Erase that Will Smith slap and turn him back around/ Or wait ’til they get backstage so they could have it out,” Joyner raps. “Or maybe make it so that Chris chose a different joke/ A different topic, somethin’ Jada won’t be mad about.”
He continues: “Matter of fact, let’s talk about the shit I’m sad about/ When Pop Smoke accidentally leaked that address out/ Lord, You know the streets crazy, how You dropped the ball/ When You know n-ggas keep a target on these rappers now?”
On another part of the track, he wishes that Tory never went to Kylie Jenner’s party on that infamous night with Meg.
“I know You hear me talkin’, Lord, don’t be curvin’ me/ Won’t You take us back to Kylie Jenner’s party/ Before them shots hit the floor/ Before the bullets ricocheted and leave a drippin’ maul/ We don’t know the truth or if we misinformed/ But either way, take it back and make Tory hop inside a different car.”
In addition to music, Joyner Lucas is gearing up for his first foray into the world of film thanks to superstar actor Mark Wahlberg. Wahlberg reportedly “handpicked” Joyner for a role in a new film, which is set to start shooting soon and will be released later this year or early 2024. There’s no word on co-stars or the title of the blockbuster.
“I got a starring role In my first MOVIE wit one of my best friends. @markwahlberg,” Joyner wrote on Instagram in the Fall. “Shooting for a few months. This is the acting transition that I always dreamed of and I owe it to you. love you buddy.”
Wahlberg praised Joyner’s acting chops in the comment section and is excited to work with the rapper. “You got the skills buddy!! Time to do the work,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Eminem was originally the first choice to star in Mark Wahlberg’s role in the Oscar-nominated movie The Fighter.
During a recent appearance on the Hollywood Gold podcast, the film’s producer Todd Lieberman revealed Slim Shady was in line to play the lead role of Micky Ward.
