Keanu Reeves is undoubtedly one of the best actors in Hollywood in recent decades. Starring in the iconic 1999 movie The Matrix, Reeves found his breakthrough role by going further and further into more complex roles that essentially proved his acting skills.
Although the actor has found fame, Keanu Reeves admitted that he had his fair share of self-doubts and judgments. Talking about how he had to ignore what the critics said about his performances, Reeves revealed that it wasn’t easy for him not to read about his performances.
Keanu Reeves Wanted To Ignore What The Critics Said
Back in the year 2000 when Reeves’ Hollywood career had yet not taken flight, the actor was always wondering what his peers and critics had to say about his performance. Starring in the role of Neo in The Matrix back in 1999, the actor was on the verge of gaining worldwide fame when he sat down for an interview.

Talking about his 2000 movie The Replacements, Reeves stated that he felt lucky that his peers never underestimated him for anything. In the interview, the actor seemed conflicted with his words as he said that he felt confident in himself due to his peers but couldn’t help himself from noticing what the critics had to say about his performance.
“I’ve never felt underestimated by my peers. By critics, sometimes. I try not to [read reviews], but I’m just such a sucker for that. It’s the bane of the actor: You’ve got to check in with what’s going on around you. It’s just the nature of the beast.”
The actor has indeed received some highly negative reviews from critics (through his own faults) which Keanu Reeves has jokingly stored in his memories. The actor has indeed dedicated quite a time to perfecting his roles.
