Kelly Clarkson has hosted many big names on her show, but there’s one guest that made her fangirl all over the stage. Alanis Morissette dropped into The Kelly Clarkson Show to sing a full set of songs, and Clarkson was completely starstruck by the ‘90s megastar. Clarkson began the segment by declaring that she “was not going to get in the way” and would just complement Morissette’s parts. Clarkson then squealed with delight after the ‘90s icon sang her hit “Hand in My Pocket” as the set opener.
Morissette then treated the crowd to a seven-song set featuring fan favorites such as “Thank U,” “Ironic,” and “You Oughta Know.” Clarkson provided tasteful backing vocals throughout the set and just sat looking adorably starstruck as Morissette sat across from her. As for Morissette, she was graceful and just looked happy to be there, and The Music Man readers won’t be surprised to hear she knocked it out of the park with her vocals.
Morissette appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show on October 20, 2023, and her duet with Clarkson has since gained nearly one million views on YouTube. Fans really loved to see the two stars working together and added comments such as “Alanis is such proof that even without delivering an onslaught of vocal acrobatics, all it takes to shine is to have that glorious, unique tone of voice and to sing with your soul” and “Kelly’s reactions are all of us. She literally had the best day of her life. Her joy was palpable.”
Morissette’s most iconic hit is without a doubt her 1996 single “Ironic.” The song’s lyrics, and its dubious use of the term ironic, have proved controversial over the years. This is perhaps why Morissette dropped into The Late Late Show with James Corden to perform a hilarious version of “Ironic” with new lyrics for the 21st century. The segment blew up big time on Corden’s channel, attracting 25 million views.
Morissette’s set on The Kelly Clarkson Show featured three songs from her 1995 international breakout hit album Jagged Little Pill, namely the singles “Ironic,” “Hand in My Pocket,” and “You Oughta Know.” Morissette had only made minor waves in the Canadian market with her first two albums, but her third album, Jagged Little Pill, transformed her into a worldwide superstar. The album sold 33 million units worldwide and picked up a whopping 17 times Platinum certification in the US. This chart-stomping success made the release one of the best-selling albums of all time.
